ehsAI Teams with Jacobs to Bring AI Technology to Digital EHS Compliance Management Solutions
ehsAI has signed a new teaming agreement with leading global professional services firm Jacobs to revolutionize Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) compliance. Integrating ehsAI’s innovative artificial intelligence/machine learning technology into Jacobs’ global EHS Information Management offering brings cost savings, improved accuracy and reduced risks for companies worldwide in the chemical, energy, manufacturing, technology, pharmaceutical, transportation and utility sectors, as well as government organizations.
ehsAI’s multi-lingual platform streamlines compliance by automating conversion of regulatory documents (permits, regulations, standards, procedures, directives, plans, etc.) into discrete compliance requirements up to 100 times faster than current state of the art data entry/processing, while maintaining better than human accuracy and consistency. This includes compliance requirements with the latest OSHA regulations related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Combining our EHS IM experience and software vendor partnerships with ehsAI advanced technology delivers a powerful and cost-effective total compliance solution,” says Lucas Wolfenden, Jacobs’ EHS Information Management Sales Leader.
Along with improved data collection, configuration and integration, the tech-driven solution saves time and overhead, reduces or eliminates financial penalties for non-compliance, decreases corporate environmental risk and inconsistent interpretations, helps achieve sustainability and resiliency targets, and speeds assets to markets.
ehsAI CEO, Margery Moore added, “We are very excited to team with Jacobs as a global partner and bring our advanced EHS compliance solution to forward-looking businesses and organizations.”

Verdantix Blog: Intelex Acquisition Of ehsAI Points To The Practical Success And Scalability Of AI For EHS
On Thursday November 19th 2020, Intelex, a subsidiary of diversified industrial conglomerate Fortive, announced the acquisition of ehsAI. Established in 2018, ehsAI is led by industry veteran Margery Moore and is headquartered in Canada with approximately 20 employees. The firm has built an artificial intelligence engine which lowers the cost of environmental compliance and has won contracts with customers like APTIM and Mosaic. To facilitate continued rapid innovation and positive engagement with the EHS ecosystem, ehsAI will operate as a standalone business from its HQ in Vancouver. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but the ehsAI shareholders preferred the growth potential offered by the deal with Intelex compared to a Series A funding round with a financial investor.
By acquiring ehsAI, Intelex gets its hands on a machine learning application which has proven success in automating the process of translating complex environmental compliance documents into specific compliance requirements. The firm claims customers benefit from cost savings of up to 80% compared to manual coding of regs and permits as well as higher levels of accuracy, complete digitization of paperwork and elimination of duplicated effort for the same site. The practical success of the ehsAI machine learning algorithm is reflected in the willingness of EHS consultancies like AECOM and Jacobs to embed the tool in their workflows. The ehsAI ML engine is also designed to integrate with EHS software applications like Intelex to create compliance action plans and flag non-compliant operations.
In just two years, ehsAI has proven out the viability of its ML engine to process environmental regs and permits. Its ability to ingest, deconstruct, interpret, index and action complex regulatory documents can be applied to numerous other categories of semi-structured documents. Within the EHS domain these include standard operating procedures, guidelines, management procedures and chemical inventories. The content agnostic design of the ML engine means it has impressive scalability to automate the processing of different document types, non-English text and domains outside EHS. Expansion of the ehsAI footprint will only be limited by factors like customer skepticism about AI and the speed at which the ML engine acquires sufficient accuracy to prove success. By deploying ehsAI to Intelex’s 1,300 EHS software customers the rate of penetration should be greatly accelerated.

EHSQ MANAGEMENT JUST GOT SMARTER: INTELEX ACQUIRES DISRUPTIVE COMPLIANCE AUTOMATION PROVIDER ehsAI
Acquisition Propels Intelex’s Leadership in Compliance Management With ehsAI’s Automation Technology Enabled Through Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
TORONTO, CANADA - November 19, 2020 — Intelex Technologies, ULC, a leading global provider of SaaS- based Environmental, Health, Safety and Quality (EHSQ) management software, today announced that it has acquired ehsAI, a next wave compliance automation technology provider. ehsAI uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning to help organizations greatly reduce the costs and risks of permitting and compliance management.
With this strategic acquisition of an innovator in the emerging AI regulatory content solution market, Intelex deepens its compliance offerings and further extends its EHSQ leadership position. ehsAI offers a unique, AI and Machine Learning-enabled solution on a multilingual platform to address compliance on a global scale. The technology deconstructs, analyzes, interprets, and converts complex EHS regulations, permits, and legal documents into actionable compliance requirements within minutes, rather than days or weeks with traditional manual processes. Through API integrations with EHS software solutions that trigger automated workflows, these compliance activities and thresholds can be tracked, monitored and reported on, delivering completely automated compliance.
“We are thrilled to have ehsAI join Intelex,” said Justin McElhattan, president of Intelex. “ehsAI augments our compliance management solutions and existing regulatory content partnerships. We look forward to innovating in collaboration with ehsAI to solve real customer pains with applied intelligence and advanced analytics. Whether it be compliance for environmental, health, safety, or quality compliance requirements, the possibilities are limitless.”
ehsAI will operate as a Vancouver-based independent business unit and will remain agnostic in its ability to work with any EHS software or EMIS solution to make the revolutionary technology accessible for any organization, not just Intelex customers. ehsAI’s existing customer base spans industries including technology, manufacturing, energy, chemical, construction, pharmaceutical and retail. Notable customers and consulting partners include AECOM, APTIM, Jacobs, Mosaic, as well as several top-tier Fortune 500 companies.
“As a woman-led technology company, being acquired by Intelex and gaining access to broader resources and opportunities within their vast ecosystem is a dream come true,” said Margery Moore, Chief Executive Officer of ehsAI. “We are excited to have the backing of Intelex to accelerate our founding mission of leveraging AI to transform the way organizations manage regulatory compliance. Intelex shares our vision of using cutting edge technology to minimize compliance risks and getting ehsAI into the hands of compliance professionals that need it now.”
The transaction closed on November 18, 2020.

APTIM and ehsAI Team Up to Revolutionize Asset-Related Compliance Management Using Artificial Intelligence
Leading engineering, integrated maintenance, and permitting expertise combined with AI technology delivers radical cost savings, reduced liability, and improved accuracy for outsourced compliance.
Baton Rouge, LA; Vancouver, BC, Sept. 02, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- APTIM, a leading engineering, integrated maintenance and comprehensive consulting services firm, and ehsAI, a cutting edge compliance technology company using AI/deep learning to greatly reduce compliance costs, are partnering to revolutionize compliance solutions for commercial, retail, industrial, utility, energy and government clients. Combining an integrated asset management program from APTIM and collaborative consulting expertise with ehsAI’s next wave artificial intelligence and patent-pending deep learning technology creates an unmatched, innovative digital solution for outsourced environmental compliance for federal, state, and local regulations and related documents.
Highly competitive companies look for opportunities to outsource compliance management and free up resources for higher value work. Traditionally, compliance with regulations and related documents requires extensive manual review, data entry labor and administrative costs to convert permits, regulations and standards into individual requirements, tasks, and reports. Work that is often slow, inconsistent, and error prone, especially across multiple facility asset portfolios.
The APTIM/ehsAI compliance solution uses deep learning to automate review and analysis of complex legal regulatory documents into compliance requirements in minutes. This advanced technology solution is 100X faster and 10X more cost-effective, while maintaining over 97% data accuracy. This means much faster document and permit compilation, review and filing, significantly reduced labor costs – one person can do the work of 10 – and minimized liability exposure due to greater reporting accuracy and reliability. For example, an industrial company’s compliance management team recently took more than 7.5 days to manually review and prepare a single permit. With the AI-based solution, review and permit preparation would be completed in an hour.
Innovative buying options include a self-serve SaaS platform that customers can use themselves or a managed service offering. Both scenarios are well-suited for remote business work environments prevalent in the downturned COVID-19 economy. The partnership serves US and Canada-based companies.
Major commercial, retail, industrial, and technology companies as well as utilities and retail giants with hundreds of locations have experienced compliance management savings and cost-reductions of up to 80% with improved accuracy. With the added advantage of liberating talent resources to further improve efficiency, profitability, and the corporate bottom line.
According to Heather Royston, President – Environmental, APTIM, “Leveraging our integrated engineering, maintenance, and environmental compliance experience with ehsAI technology seamlessly creates a compelling, innovative, and cost-effective compliance solution for today and well into the future.”
Margery Moore, CEO ehsAI added, “We are extremely pleased to partner with global leader APTIM as they are an early adapter of AI and share our commitment to innovative technology and next wave digital solutions. Together we provide breakthrough compliance assurance, drastically reduced costs to help derive greater business value.”

Marcel came to us from AECOM Canada, where he was head of Permitting & Compliance for Western Canada.
Take a moment to get to know Marcel.
Marcel Guevara, EHS Regulatory Director at ehsAI (Moore & Gasperecz Global Inc.)
What made you leave corporate life and join a tech start-up like ehsAI?
I enjoyed the stability and predictability of corporate life, as well as the big professional network always available to help in large projects. But at the same time, I was missing the flexibility, impetus and speed of small and creative start-ups or small companies that challenge my capabilities and creativity. Since the first interview with ehsAI, I felt the immense dynamism and cleverness of ehsAI.
How do you see your EHS experience being applied to the growth and success of ehsAI?
Over my 25+ years in the EHS field, I have accumulated a wide and diverse experience. Being responsible for large O&G operations, I understood the complexity of the EHS regulatory framework. As a consultant/auditor, I understood the needs of multiple industries such as mining, energy, manufacturing, etc. I'm excited and confident that with my understanding of EHS challenges and opportunities I'll be able to collaborate with the AI team to help improve current tools and processes, as well as develop new ones. The more and better tools that we develop to facilitate the work of EHS colleagues, to allow industries to better comply with legal requirements, and to improve EHS performance overall; the growth and success of ehsAI is guaranteed.
What really excites you about the role?
I always have been passionate about the application of knowledge to solve real-life problems and improve processes. I’m excited about being part of the pragmatic approach of ehsAI to provide needed solutions to the EHS field. I’m also enthusiastic about being able to be involved in the entire lifecycle of products/projects, from the brainstorm to identify problems to solve, the development of tools to solve them, up to the delivery of solutions to clients.

CANADIAN STARTUP MOORE AND GASPERECZ GLOBAL DEPLOYS AI TO EHS
Moore and Gasperecz Global Inc. is a Vancouver, BC-based corporation that is disrupting the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) compliance market with their cloud-based Machine Learning product called, ehsAI (www.ehsai.ca). Due to overlapping jurisdictions and the sheer number of regulations, compliance is a complex and costly process globally. Today, companies do this work internally or hire consultants or lawyers to de- construct EHS legal documents into compliance requirements and tasks. Documents that the trademarked ehsAI deconstructs include regulations, permits, plans, and standards for any industry sector.
ehsAI is serving retail, tech, chemicals, oil/gas and energy verticals, in support of compliance assurance, auditing, compliance certification, and populating EHS Software platforms like Intelex, Enablon, VelocityEHS, and many others.
ehsAI makes it far less expensive to determine a company’s compliance requirements while delivering more accurate, granular, and consistent compliance data 10x faster than a human. A user can go from permit to compliance checklist in minutes, cutting the cost and admin bur- den of compliance by up to 80%.
Margery Moore, CEO & Founder, started the company with partner and co-founder, Greg Gasperecz. Greg was the originator of the EHS Software platform Enviance that was acquired by Battery Ventures in 2015. Margery comes from Bloomberg BNA where she designed and commercialized multiple products for the EHS market. She has a Masters in EHS Data Management from the University of Victoria. She has her own environmental charity in BC called I-SEA and sits on several industry boards and working groups to bring AI and ML to the EHS profession, strategically and thoughtfully. In July 2019 she appeared as a panelist at EBJ’s Paci c Northwest Environmental Industry Summit in Seattle.
EBJ: Can you provide an overview on how ehsAI is used by customers?
MM: ehsAI is thin, light, and easy to insert into any EHS compliance work flow. Our customers use ehsAI to populate EHS Software platforms in a fraction of the time it would take without ehsAI; they accelerate audit prep by reviewing/deconstructing critical documents into compliance checklists on-demand; they create compliance registries for ISO 14001 or to meet other standards; and, customers use ehsAI to quickly determine if a company is compliant with their regulatory obligations during M&A activities. Companies need this support all throughout the year, making ehsAI an EHS professional’s best friend.
EBJ: What is the real value that you provide to your customers using Ma- chine Learning/NLP?
MM: We can produce data that is more accurate than a human, more granular, while providing a more consistent interpretation every single time. We do that 10x faster than doing it manually. Manual deconstruction of permits and regs into compliance requirements is the exact type of manual, repetitive, error prone, fork-in- the-eye boring work that Machine Learn- ing/NLP is perfectly suited for. ehsAI eliminates the administrative burden of EHS compliance so professionals can get on with the important work.
EBJ: And is it only targeted to Environmental Health and Safety related documents or can it be used for a wide variety of documents?
MM: Our current algorithms are trained on specific types of data and documents; EHS permits, regs, standards, plans, etc., but we can deconstruct any document that uses ‘command and control’ syntax. We will be expanding beyond EHS into adjacent areas that are also prime targets for digitalization. We are very ex- cited to roll out additional ‘ehsAI’ products for non-English speaking countries on our language agnostic cutting-edge AI platform later this year.
EBJ: What type of plans do you offer? Are they subscription based or do you sell the software? And are they dependent on the number of people that use the software or what other variables do you take into account for pricing?
We price by the page for documents processed through ehsAI’s cloud. Users have complete control over all of their documents via the ehsAI Portal. We’ll be introducing a SaaS offering, i.e. X$/month for unlimited usage, later in 2020. (Note: SaaS offering was launched May 1st, 2020)
EBJ: What type of clients do you currently have? And which people within an organization are using your products?
MM: We have clients from multiple industry verticals including technology, retail, chemicals, forestry, rail, mining, oil and gas, energy, and utilities. This diversity of customer verticals provides us with a very broad set of documents and training data that improves our accuracy and scope continually.
We are therefore able to support all EHS professionals from the Facility man- ager to Global Director, and everyone in between. One non-EHS job title that is consistently reaching out to us are Directors and Vice-Presidents of Digital Innovation. ehsAI is a perfect quick win for these folks who are looking for process effciency tools like ehsAI that can be used across the organization.
EBJ: When did you found the company and how did you realize that this type of product could bring a lot of value to the industry?
MM: I founded the company in March of 2018. After building a proof-of-concept that was well received by early adaptors, we decided to raise capital and proceed with full commercialization. Since March of 2018 we have completed multiple fund- ing rounds, launched ehsAI commercially, and hired an “AI Dream Team”. It’s a great team excited about solving this big challenge.
EBJ: What other Artificial Intelligence applications are having a big impact in the environmental industry?
MM: There are many! A company called Fracta that uses AI to monitor pipeline integrity is one example that I really love. Some EHS Software companies are employing advanced analytics to mine years of incident data to help predict when an accident might happen. That’s a game-changer. I’m also involved in, and in awe of, the Biomimicry Institute work with AI. That work has great promise to positively impact product design and production that will also have transformative effects on companies, communities and the planet.
EBJ: How do you think that Artificial Intelligence will evolve in the next 10 years?
MM: Let me first answer by pointing out this at this incredible moment in time, we are seeing the digitalization of work happening along side the reduction in EHS staff sizes in departments. These conditions, along with others, are allowing companies like ours to succeed.
In ten years using AI-enabled tools will be the norm and we will see AI, ML, and NLP talent found in every company. This transformative change will impact how everyone works every day. I see extremely promising projects coming out of the tech, research, academic and healthcare realms that will change our lives for the good.
